Check out the DNGs and decide for yourself. I personally liked the image quality. If a camera was great 7 years ago for photo it’s great today as well. That notion that all of the sudden we need to reinvent the wheel with every release is kind of wrong IMO

There are two I use. One is the SL3 Medium Oberwerth as my y EDC and the Peter McMinnon Nomatic for travel.

I tested this camera mainly for photo. The quality seems 8 bit 4:2:0 mp4 I believe. I did not perform a recording length test. But I’m assuming about 10-15 minutes. Again I tested a prototype, not final firmware so we will have to wait to see what this camera will have as final specs.

After the new firmware my issues stopped. Yea. The encoding is the same as regular Summilux 11891 as it’s the same optical lens. One thing that could’ve been was the paint of the material, it was yellowish and not very white in real life.

Yeah looks are amazing. But it’s not the most complete camera specs wise out there. I want it for photos and it does that really good. Love how fast it was and long battery life. That sold me.

Indeed. If you own a Q or Q2 you already have a great camera. The lens is the same. Between the Q and Q3 there are more noticeable differences. But to me the tilt screen did it for me

@@GastonShutters The tilt screen is important to me too. I like to be less intrusive when I take pictures of people in public, and when using the tilt screen with the camera at my waist, it’s not screaming “I’m taking your picture!!!”. I’m not a Leica Purist Collector who is having an anxiety attack because Leica put their first ever tilt screen on this camera.

Not a purist neither! Looking forward for an M. Body with tilt screen and evf! I can see some Leica purists having a panic attack after my statement.

@@GastonShutters SL3 and Q3 are definitely for hardcore users and real enthusiasts who have Leica look jpg, while Dlux 8 targets casual and young photographers, which is a must. That is why Fuji and Ricoh are famous among youngsters because of film simulation.

Operating the D Lux 8 is like operating a Q3.

I’ve heard that from Leica rumors. Delays in launches are common, if something is not ready to perform as designed. But it could be due to many other reasons.

Tilt screen would’ve been great

I believe so as long as you don’t have that self closing cap. Didn’t have the need to use filters or ND. It has a pretty good electronic shutter too

@@GastonShutters I doubt that it will come out. The design of D-lux 8 follows on the ID of the the LX3 and the Leica equivalents.

Yeah they were straight out of camera and they require some tweak but you can get them to look amazing. Great DR

You are wrong, i used sony fullframe, now enjoying sony apsc with cropped full frame lenses including manual voigtlanders. I dont see why I cant consider MFT..

m4/3 is a good format that fully meets the needs of most hobbyist photographers. There’s been a massive ad campaign from all manufacturers that you need full frame but that’s just to allow them to sell more cameras. That’s fine - we need them to stay in business! But m4/3 is still a great format.

Thats a steal of a price man. Good job. 10-12 MP is more than enough for 24x36 more or less. DNGs seem to be smaller and easier to handle by older computers I believe

@@GastonShutters I think the fuss with the DNGs is so you can easily edit them on a mobile device. If you edit on a computer, then all of the previous models also support RAW equally. In my opinion. I am not a DNG purist.

@@GastonShutters I did see it mentioned, but the advantages not explained. Did you do a review in which you did explain them? Most photographers don't even understand what's happening when the dial is turned, how the oversized sensor functions and what the advantages are. As far as I know, this is the last camera that's being offered with multi-aspect, unless a 10 MP M43 Panasonic is still being offered, which doesn't have IS or IBIS, and is designed for video. Gordon Laing was one of the few reviewers who would explain what multi-aspect does, but didn't really explain its advantages. Panasonic never marketed it well. Thanks.

You are right and you are explaining it really good. Especially if you want to crop into portrait mode you’ll have more image to work with.

@@GastonShutters It also helps us think in terms of what is the best aspect ratio for this shot while shooting. Because 3:2 is often not the best aspect ratio. And I really love getting a wider than 24mm field of view when shooting in 16:9, which can also be cropped in post to panos 2:1 or the XPAN 65:24. I've long believed that oversized crop sensors should be the norm in all cameras, instead of having to crop everything from 3:2. Being able to capture more of what the lens sees should have been on the top of many photographers' and manufacturers' list, but it's hardly ever mentioned. I'm now using Fuji's GFX 100S medium format with my Canon full frame EF lenses so I can capture most of what these lenses see. All 35mm lenses can be shot in square (33x33mm) and pano (65:24) without vignetting, using the full image circle of the lenses. Petal lens hoods have to be sawed off though. Other ratios may vignette, but are a dream come true for me. No longer stuck in 3:2

That's a great point. I've been pondering a lot lately how inconvenient it is to rotate the whole camera 90 degrees just to take a portrait format shot, when surely the answer would be to use a square (1:1) sensor. I doubt camera manufacturers will do anything quite that radical any time soon, so this seems to be the next-best-thing. Of course the Q3 also solves that problem by having a huge number of pixels to play with.

@GastonShutters I reviewed the files you indicated, and I didn't like the quality of the files. Lack of resolution and basic sharpness. Perhaps, if it were a monochrome sensor, where the light hits directly on the sensor without color filters, the image would have more sharpness and resolution. The Sony ZV-E1 has only 12 megapixel, and generates crisp, high-resolution files. Therefore, small megapixel is not a problem. But the quality of the sensor is very important. When I mean black and white, it's not by color, but by the quality of a sensor without the colored filters. I have a Canon R6 Mark II. I want a small camera with a minimum of file quality. I'd stick with the Fujifilm X100VI instead of the DLux 8. My score is 3/10 for the DLux file. 10/10 for your work. Thanks.

Zooming in at 200% you’ll find the limit of the lens and sensor. But who needs to zoom in in real life. I’ve print it from it already and the image looks amazing again it’s not a full frame camera but that resolution is good enough for most situation.

It would be a huge camera. Look at the sigma 18-55 f2.8. While it’s small it doesn’t make a Sony A6700 pocket compact. Another reason why this lens crops into the sensor. Because designing a fast lens that cover the whole sensor would’ve made the camera big. Unless the less would be like a bad apsc with an aperture of f3.5-5.6

Well the 28mm is great for certain styles I like it a lot for street as it allows me to get in the mix of the happening and get part of the context. It is not a focal length that I would prefer for portrait for example. It’s great for specific tasks. It all depends the types of photography you are in. Best way to love it is to stick to it and try it in many different ways. Just like any lens.

@domipro123 same sensor same color. However now it has DNGs which may be slightly better to edit that RWL prior raw format. But didn’t notice anything. I think the Image quality was great to begin with on the DLux 7

Yeah. I think less MP and good optics will always render an image sharper.

Yeah it’s a clean lens. I had the V2 and the 1m mfd was an issue for me. The one that I really want to get is the V3 pre aspherical. That lens has a great balance of that vintage look with close focus at 0.7M. My next lens on the list. But agreed the 11891 is a sweet compact fast option.

​@@GastonShutters “Don’t buy the V3. I trade it with 11891, and it has several issues. Although the lens structure is the same as the V2, the bokeh does not have the same swirl as the V2. And the V3 leaks oil, lens element separation inside can cause fogging. This is widely known among chinese players. Mine has already fogged up. it cost me around 800AUD to fix, So I just fix it in china with only 200AUD and sold it. It is not a good experience for me haha.

same here, in fact I do mostly 28mm and then try to narrow to 35mm or 50mm but then always move back to 28mm that is definitely a more versatile focal lens

@@damienphotographe yeah, I love my 28mm. It’s been my main lens for the better part of two years now. I love my 50mm for portraits but that’s about all the use it gets anymore.

I could settle with the 35. It I will always miss the 24-28 or 50-75 hehehehe

The Q2M is great. I had the color Q2. Regarding the DLux 8 as a companion can be a great choice for the size. It all depends how large you need your files but for what you are describing it will be perfect. I can’t think of a better camera to be a companion of a Q2M if you want to stay within the brand. I really enjoyed the time with it. While it wouldn’t be replacing my full frame Leicas I can see this camera as an easier carry for certain situations

@@GastonShutters Many Thanks For Your Prompt Reply Gaston 🙏🙏📷‼️ The Q2M is simply the best camera I've ever owned for my BNW Photography shooting...and I've used Nikon, Olympus, Ricoh and most recently Fujifilm. As for "staying in the brand", the menu similarities and the focus on Photography fundamentals vs technological "gimmicks" which get in my way tells me Leica is my choice and the DLUX 8 is my way forward as the partner for my Q2M. Now...if only Leica would release more details on the new camera and it's full specifications 🤔🤔😎‼️

I think they may be loading the camera with more features than what I was able to test hence why there is not a full spec sheet yet. Leica Looks is probably one of the things they may be trying to incorporate. In fact a must if they attempt to compete with Ricoh and Fuji. I don’t shoot simulations but for that market I think this camera is intended is needed. Another thing that I want to see I proved in final firmware is the AF performance. It was decent but not solid. I did enjoy the camera and I will be getting it

If July 2 is beginning of pre-orders, we might not get the DLUX 8 in-hand until sometime in August😡😡. Also, I'm hoping to get clarity on what will be in the box with the camera and a battery...a hi-speed USB-C cable? The DLUX 8 version of the DLUX 7 auto-open, auto-close lens cap? SD Card? Wrist Strap?

All images in this video are from the DLux 8. If you are talking about the bokeh, that’s what you get when you are really close to subject at f1.7

This dude shoots also a lot with Q3, SL3, Fuji and Sony and I make great use of the tilt screen for low angle shots. We never thought they would do that on a Q body and SL and here we have it. Regarding colors, the colors are not worse, I simply stated that they are slightly different science. I grade all my photos so this is not an issue after all. The M11 is my favorite camera of all. Yes IBIS would be amazing allowing us to shoot at lower shutter improving sharpness and low light performance.

The M12 may solve that if the rumor is right. But it gets the job done for now and after using it so much it grew in me

I think I replied to a comment on a wrong video…sorry. Regarding GRIII there is no comparison. This camera offers a zoom lens with OIS and M4/3 sensor vs a 35 equiv and APCS with IBIS. They both have pros and cons. I like the handling of this camera and the advantage of having 24-70. I find that a plus and the sensor size doesn’t bother me for what this camera is for. In fact cropping too much from a GRIII to get the proper framing than zooming in would give you at the end a lower resolution image depending on how much you crop. In terms of low light I think it does pretty good. I’d say they are equal in low light performance. The GRIII is smaller. This one slightly larger but more comfortable to hold. The main highlight here is a proper EVF with diopter on the DLux 8
